Emohua Local Government Area was created out of the old Ikwerre Local Government Area in August 27, 1991.
The local government headquarters is located in Emohua town according to the 2006 population census.
The Local Government Area has a population of 201,057 and a land mass of 685.75 square kilometers. It has
14 wards spread out in Ogbakiri, Emohua, Ibaa, Obelle, Rundele – Rumuekpe, Elele – Alimini, Omudioga/Akpabu/Itu, Egbeda, Ubimini and Odegu.
